ICM is fully accredited in the UK by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), the government’s regulatory body for public examinations and publicly funded qualifications.
Progression Routes to University
A number of university progression routes exist should you wish to undertake a degree programme on completion of your ICM studies. Subject to the level of your ICM Award you will be eligible to join the first, second or final year of a wide range of degree programmes.
Choosing your Course of Study
As an ICM Student Member you can work towards obtaining either a recognised Professional qualification or study for one or more of the 200 Single Subject Awards from the list of subjects offered by the Institute. The choice is yours.
Conversion of Single Subjects into a Professional Qualification
Under the regulations governing ICM Single Subject awards, it is possible for any student who holds the appropriate number of Single Subject awards to apply for these to be converted into a Professional award. Those wishing to take advantage of this regulation must hold a Single Subject award for each subject on the syllabus of the relevant Professional programme.
To apply for the conversion of Single Subject passes into a Professional award, students must complete the appropriate form and return this to the Institute, together with the relevant fee. Students will be able to obtain the necessary forms from their Centres or directly from the ICM website.
ICM Approved Centres
Tuition leading to the Institute’s examinations can only be provided by Institutions which have been granted ICM ‘Approved Centre’ status. Please note that some ICM Teaching Centres specialise in particular subject areas and not all ICM Centres will necessarily offer tuition for every ICM course programme. Click here to find an ICM Approved Centre near you.
Examination Entry requirements and Closing Dates
In order to undertake any ICM Professional or Single Subject examination you must be a Registered and paid-up ICM Student Member.
To enter for an examination you need to complete the relevant Examination Entry form and submit it to the Institute, together with the appropriate examination entry fee/s.
In order to enable ICM to process all Examination entries there is a Closing Date for receipt of all forms for each Examination Series – details of the Closing Dates are shown on the ICM website.
Your completed form and fee/s must reach ICM before the Closing Date for the examination Series you select.
Examination timetable
ICM examinations take place four times each year, in March, June, September and December (Republic of Ireland: March, May, September and December). The timetable for each year states the closing date for receipt of entries for each examination Series. Click here to view the ICM examination timetable.
Textbooks
The recommended textbooks for each subject are shown on each subject syllabus. Examiners base their questions on the contents of the recommended texts and it is therefore important for you to ensure that you have access to the appropriate texts. You can obtain the full list of books available to purchase from ICM and/or place orders by either contacting your Centre or ICM’s Book Sales Manager, Ron Saunders, at: info@icm.ac.uk.
Examination results
These are issued approximately 12 weeks from receipt of candidates’ answer scripts. Results, and if appropriate, certificates, are issued automatically.
Examination grades and re-marking
You can request that your examination script is re-marked if you are unhappy with your result.
The fee for this is GBP £35.00 per script. The Institute operates a triple marking and moderation system. In the event that the moderator increases the original marks awarded, the fee for re-marking your script will be refunded to you. Should the Grade awarded remain the same, you will be issued with a full Examiner’s report detailing your examination performance. The Institute retains answer scripts for a maximum period of six months. Examination scripts/answer books are not returned to candidates under any circumstances.
Examination re-sits
Due to time constraints, it is not always possible for students who fail their exams to be automatically entered into the next Examination Series. If you wish to re-enter for an examination, you will be able to do so in the second series following your original exam date.
Your Teaching Centre will also be able to provide you with the dates of each Examination Series.
Examination Grades
Should students re-sit any examination to improve their previous grade, please be advised that the latest grade obtained will stand.
Transcript of Academic Results
You may request a transcript of your Academic Results, however please note there is a charge of GBP £10.00 for each document requested.
Deferrals
There is a fee of GBP £10.00 per subject should you wish to defer your examinations to another Series for health or for any other reason. If you are unable to undertake your examinations, it is essential you advise ICM before the appropriate examination date, otherwise the full entry fee of GBP £20.00 will be applicable. Please note that you may only defer examinations on one occasion. The full entry fee of GBP £20.00 per subject will become due if you defer on more than one occasion.
Claiming Exemptions from ICM’s Professional Programmes
If you have successfully completed examinations with another recognised professional or examining board and are undertaking an ICM professional programme you might qualify for one or more subject exemptions. The Exemption Application form is located on the reverse of each Professional Examination Entry form.
If you consider yourself eligible for one or more exemptions, you will need to supply us with documentary evidence which we will present to our Exemptions Committee. We require photocopies of your certificates and of the syllabuses for the subjects you have completed. You will be notified of the Exemption Committee’s decision in writing.
You must be a Registered ICM Student Member before you are able to apply for any subject exemption/s.
Students with specific learning difficulties
If you are diagnosed with a specific learning difficulty you may be granted special arrangements for your examination/s. We will require a copy of an Assessment Report issued within the last three years. The amount of additional time and any other arrangements will be determined on the basis of the Report relating to your circumstances. It is possible that you may also be granted permission to use a computer in your examinations.
Replacement Certificates
Replacement certificates are available at a fee of GBP £10.00 per certificate. Please include your Student Registration Number together with your current postal address and indicate which certificate is required.
