Associate degrees are awarded to those candidates who can demonstrate, through the medium of a Research Project and the production of a formal Report that they are able to apply, in the work place, the knowledge they have gained during their studies.

Candidates are required to undertake an approved work or industry based Research Project which is relevant to their employment and to produce a Report of not less than 5,000 words.

The purpose of the Research and the Report is to establish that candidates have the ability to:

• undertake appropriate and relevant research to identify a problem area, threat, risk or business opportunity within an organisation, corporation, government or business department (Tourism Projects should focus on tourism development issues)
• analyse the nature and extent of the problem, threat, risk or opportunity
• integrate and inter-relate concepts, techniques and the knowledge gained during their earlier studies and demonstrate, through their Report, that they can apply the knowledge gained
• acknowledge any relevant earlier research or relevant theoretical perspectives which might have a bearing on the project topic
• develop and apply their analytical and communication skills and
• produce a Report suggesting ways to deal with the situation identified by their research.

Although the Report should include references to business or management theory the content of the Report must deal with an actual identified situation within a business environment.

Fees

A Reading Fee of £210.00 is payable at the time the final Report is submitted. No fees are payable prior to this (excluding normal Student Registration or Membership joining fees).

In the event that a Report is returned to a candidate it will be accompanied by notes from the Examiner. These notes will indicate any areas of the Report which need attention. Reports may be resubmitted with the payment of £105.00

Please note: The Institute will contact you to advise you if your proposed area of Research and the title of your Report are acceptable. Upon receipt of your completed Report and the Reading Fee, your work will be assessed and marked. You will be notified of the result of the assessment within 6-8 weeks. There is a two year time limit for the submission of Reports.
